Civil War Rifleman's Side Knife with Scabbard. This is
a beautifully made knife with a fruit wood handle and brass cross guard.
The odd shaped brass pommel was made to allow the barrel of a rifle to
rest on it when the knife was stuck into the ground or a piece of wood.
Similar knives of this pattern are known, but the maker of this one is
not. The blade is so well made with a raised central ridge, that
the knife maker could have been surgical tool maker. This knife is
similar to knives thought to be a product of Rees Fitzpatrick of
Natchez, Miss. or C. Heinz of Columbia, SC. SOLD |
